About Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) Scrubber Systems
Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) is a colorless, flammable, and highly toxic gas often generated in industries such as oil and gas, wastewater treatment, biogas, chemical manufacturing, and pulp and paper. Known for its rotten egg smell, H₂S is corrosive to equipment, hazardous to human health, and subject to strict environmental regulation. We provide custom-engineered Hydrogen Sulfide Scrubber Systems designed to safely and efficiently remove H₂S from exhaust and process gas streams. Our systems ensure environmental compliance, workplace safety, and long-term operational efficiency.

How the H₂S Scrubber System Works
The removal of hydrogen sulfide can be achieved using two core scrubbing technologies: wet scrubbing and dry scrubbing. We offer both solutions based on client needs, operating environment, and discharge limits.
Wet Scrubber
In a wet scrubber, the contaminated air stream passes through a packed bed reactor where it comes into contact with an alkaline scrubbing solution, typically sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The H₂S reacts chemically with the alkaline liquid to form non-toxic sulfates or thiosulfates. The treated air is then passed through a demister before being released into the atmosphere.
Components:
- FRP scrubber tower with structured packing
- Recirculation tank and pump
- Chemical dosing system with pH control
- Blower with VFD (Variable Frequency Drive)
- Demister section
Dry Scrubber
A dry H₂S scrubber uses media beds packed with activated carbon or impregnated mineral media that physically adsorb and chemically neutralize H₂S molecules as air passes through. This system is preferred in low humidity or intermittent flow applications where water-based systems are not viable.
Components:
- Carbon steel or stainless steel housing
- Media cartridges or packed media beds
- Inlet and outlet ducting
- Optional pre-filters and post-filters
- Pressure differential monitoring system
Industrial Applications
Our H₂S scrubbers are used across various industries:
Wastewater Treatment Plants
H₂S is commonly released during anaerobic digestion, sludge handling, and lift station operations. Our scrubbers control odor and meet safety norms for enclosed plants and open-air treatment zones.
Oil and Gas Refineries
H₂S is a byproduct of crude oil and natural gas processing. Our systems help maintain emission levels within environmental guidelines while protecting downstream equipment from corrosion.
Biogas and Landfill Gas Treatment
H₂S in biogas can damage engines and reduce methane yield. Scrubbers installed before biogas upgrading systems protect membranes and improve gas quality.
Chemical and Fertilizer Plants
Our H₂S scrubbers help treat exhaust gases from sulphur recovery units, reactors, or venting systems to protect workers and prevent chemical contamination.
Pulp and Paper Mills
In kraft pulping processes, H₂S emissions are a challenge. Our scrubbers eliminate H₂S at source before it enters the stack.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hydrogen Sulfide Scrubber
Our scrubber systems are engineered to achieve up to 99.9% H₂S removal efficiency, depending on factors such as inlet gas concentration, flow rate, contact time, and media or reagent used. Performance is validated through gas analysis during commissioning.
Yes. Our systems incorporate Variable Frequency Drive (VFD)-controlled blowers, pressure sensors, and flow meters that allow real-time adjustment to varying gas flow rates without compromising performance or safety.
- Wet Scrubbers: Require periodic pH monitoring, neutralization chemical dosing, and occasional solution replacement.
- Dry Scrubbers: Media typically lasts 6 to 12 months, depending on inlet H₂S concentration, flow rate, and humidity.
- Wet Scrubber: Uses a chemical solution (e.g., caustic) to neutralize H₂S gas via absorption and chemical reaction.
- Dry Scrubber: Utilizes solid adsorbent media (e.g., impregnated activated carbon) to physically adsorb H₂S from the gas stream.
Our scrubbers are widely used in:
- Wastewater treatment plants (STPs & ETPs)
- Biogas plants
- Oil & gas facilities
- Chemical & fertilizer industries
- Pulp & paper mills
- Food processing and rendering plants
