Purchase Manager
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Purchase Manager to join our MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) contracting company. As a Purchase Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the procurement process, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, equipment, and services required for various projects. Your role will be crucial in maintaining a smooth workflow and supporting the successful execution of our MEP contracts. The ideal candidate should possess strong negotiation skills, excellent attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the MEP industry.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement effective procurement strategies and policies specific to MEP projects, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and industry regulations.
- Identify and source potential suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors for various project requirements, while maintaining a comprehensive supplier database.
- Conduct market research to stay up-to-date with the latest trends, pricing, and availability of MEP materials, equipment, and services.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities, conduct vendor assessments, and negotiate favorable terms and conditions to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and timely delivery of goods and services.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to determine project material and equipment requirements, providing input on technical specifications, alternatives, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Monitor and track purchase orders, follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, resolve any delays or issues, and maintain updated records of procurement activities.
- Conduct regular supplier performance evaluations, addressing any performance or quality issues, and initiate corrective actions as necessary.
- Coordinate with the finance department to ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, and budget control.
- Stay updated with industry regulations, market conditions, and emerging technologies in the MEP field, recommending innovative procurement strategies to optimize processes and reduce costs.
People Management Skills:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of procurement professionals, providing guidance, support, and training to enhance their skills and performance.
- Set clear performance expectations, establish goals, and provide regular feedback to team members to drive continuous improvement and ensure the achievement of departmental objectives.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting effective communication and teamwork among team members and other departments.
- Resolve conflicts and address employee concerns in a timely and constructive manner, promoting a positive and supportive work culture.
- Conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and facilitate professional development opportunities to enhance the capabilities and growth of the procurement team.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field. Relevant certifications.
- Proven work experience as a Purchase Manager or similar role within the MEP contracting industry.
- In-depth knowledge of MEP materials, equipment, and services, and a strong understanding of industry standards and specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective procurement strategies, policies, and procedures.
- Proficiency in procurement software and systems, and advanced knowledge of MS Office applications.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and contractors.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with legal and contractual requirements related to procurement processes.
- Strong ethical standards and a commitment to promoting sustainable and socially responsible procurement practices.
