Purchase Manager

Job Summary:

 We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Purchase Manager to join our MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) contracting company. As a Purchase Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the procurement process, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, equipment, and services required for various projects. Your role will be crucial in maintaining a smooth workflow and supporting the successful execution of our MEP contracts. The ideal candidate should possess strong negotiation skills, excellent attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the MEP industry.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement effective procurement strategies and policies specific to MEP projects, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and industry regulations.
  2. Identify and source potential suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors for various project requirements, while maintaining a comprehensive supplier database.
  3. Conduct market research to stay up-to-date with the latest trends, pricing, and availability of MEP materials, equipment, and services.
  4. Evaluate supplier capabilities, conduct vendor assessments, and negotiate favorable terms and conditions to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and timely delivery of goods and services.
  5. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to determine project material and equipment requirements, providing input on technical specifications, alternatives, and cost-saving opportunities.
  6. Prepare and issue purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to budgetary constraints.
  7. Monitor and track purchase orders, follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, resolve any delays or issues, and maintain updated records of procurement activities.
  8. Conduct regular supplier performance evaluations, addressing any performance or quality issues, and initiate corrective actions as necessary.
  9. Coordinate with the finance department to ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, and budget control.
  10. Stay updated with industry regulations, market conditions, and emerging technologies in the MEP field, recommending innovative procurement strategies to optimize processes and reduce costs.

People Management Skills:

  1. Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of procurement professionals, providing guidance, support, and training to enhance their skills and performance.
  2. Set clear performance expectations, establish goals, and provide regular feedback to team members to drive continuous improvement and ensure the achievement of departmental objectives.
  3. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting effective communication and teamwork among team members and other departments.
  4. Resolve conflicts and address employee concerns in a timely and constructive manner, promoting a positive and supportive work culture.
  5. Conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and facilitate professional development opportunities to enhance the capabilities and growth of the procurement team.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field. Relevant certifications.  
  2. Proven work experience as a Purchase Manager or similar role within the MEP contracting industry.
  3. In-depth knowledge of MEP materials, equipment, and services, and a strong understanding of industry standards and specifications.
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective procurement strategies, policies, and procedures.
  5. Proficiency in procurement software and systems, and advanced knowledge of MS Office applications.
  6. Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and contractors.
  8. Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Familiarity with legal and contractual requirements related to procurement processes.
  10. Strong ethical standards and a commitment to promoting sustainable and socially responsible procurement practices.
